At the crossroads of three provinces, Anjou, Poitou and Touraine, the Royal Fortress of Chinon is a strategic site occupied since ancient times and much coveted throughout history. Henry II, Count of Anjou and King of England from 1154, gave the fortress its current form. Later, in 1429, the fortress witnessed the famous meeting between Joan of Arc and the future Charles VII.
